Paint Correction & Surface Restoration
Paint doesn’t always need replacing. Sometimes it just needs the right process.
From restoring gloss on tired paint through to removing swirl marks, mineral deposits, etching and more advanced defects, we assess the finish first and work out how far it can be safely improved.
Start with the paint, not the package.
Not every car needs full correction.
Some paint simply needs a light machine polish to bring the gloss back. Some needs a proper cut and polish. Others have deeper defects, water spotting or surface damage that need a more considered approach.
We look at the condition of the paint, the result you want and how much correction actually makes sense before recommending the work.
The goal isn’t to use the most aggressive process. It’s to use the right one.
Paint Enhancement
Bring tired paint back to life.
If the paint still looks fundamentally healthy but has lost some gloss, clarity or depth, a lighter machine polish can make a substantial difference.
Paint enhancement is aimed at improving the overall finish rather than chasing every individual defect.
It can help reduce:
- light wash marring
- mild swirl marks
- haze
- dullness
- light oxidation
- minor surface imperfections
The result is cleaner reflection, stronger gloss and paint that simply looks fresher again.
Best suited to
Daily drivers, newer vehicles and cars where the paint needs a lift without the time or clear-coat removal involved in full correction.
Cut & Polish
More correction, without chasing perfection.
When the paint needs more than a light enhancement, a traditional cut and polish gives us more scope to reduce visible defects.
The cutting stage targets swirl marks, wash marring, oxidation and lighter scratches before the finish is refined back up for gloss and clarity.
This is often the sweet spot for a vehicle that has picked up years of washing marks but doesn’t need intensive multi-stage correction.
A cut and polish can help with
- moderate swirl marks
- wash scratches
- oxidation
- light-to-moderate surface defects
- tired clear coat
- loss of gloss and reflection clarity
Not every scratch will disappear, and we won’t keep cutting simply because a defect is still visible.
Paint Correction
When the defects are what you notice first.
For heavier swirl marks, wash marring and defects that need more deliberate correction, we step the process up.
Paint correction is about carefully removing a controlled amount of damaged clear coat so the surrounding surface becomes more level and reflects light properly again.
How far we go depends on the paint.
We consider:
- defect depth
- paint condition
- available clear coat
- previous polishing or correction
- the type of vehicle
- the result you actually want
Some cars respond beautifully to a single correction stage.
Others need considerably more work.
And sometimes the safest answer is to leave a defect partially visible rather than compromise the paint chasing it.
The aim
Maximum sensible improvement, not maximum material removal.
Wet Sanding & Localised Defect Correction
For defects polishing alone can’t reach.
Some isolated defects sit too deep or too unevenly for machine polishing to correct efficiently.
Where paint thickness and condition allow, controlled wet sanding can be used to level a specific area before the finish is refined again through polishing.
This may be suitable for things like:
- deeper isolated scratches
- severe localised etching
- paint texture issues
- sanding marks
- selected surface defects
Wet sanding is never treated as a routine add-on.
The surface is assessed first, and if the risk outweighs the likely improvement, we don’t do it.
Orange Peel Reduction
Improve the texture. Improve the reflection.
Orange peel is the uneven paint texture that gives reflections a distorted or rippled appearance.
Some factory finishes naturally have more texture than others.
Where there is enough paint to work with, controlled levelling can reduce excessive texture and improve reflection clarity.
This is specialist work and not every vehicle is a suitable candidate.
The goal is not to chase perfectly flat paint at any cost.
It is to improve the finish while respecting the paint system underneath it.
Glass, water spots and decontamination sit on the Specialist hub.
What can actually be corrected?
A lot. Not everything.
Paint correction improves the finish that already exists.
It cannot rebuild missing clear coat or make every defect disappear safely.
Some deeper scratches may only soften.
Some etching may sit too far into the clear coat.
Some paint may already be too thin or compromised for aggressive correction.
If chasing a mark creates more risk than benefit, we’ll tell you.
We’d rather leave 10% of a defect behind than create a much bigger problem trying to remove the last 10%.
Not sure what level your car needs?
That’s what the assessment is for.
You don’t need to know whether you need enhancement, a cut and polish or full correction.
Send us clear photos, tell us what bothers you about the finish and what sort of result you’re hoping for.
We’ll recommend the process that makes sense for the vehicle.
Once it’s right, protect it.
Correcting paint is only half the story.
Once the finish is where you want it, protection helps make it easier to keep there.
Depending on the vehicle, that may mean:
- a premium sealant
- ceramic paint protection
- glass protection
- wheel protection
- ongoing maintenance through the Car Care Club
Correction restores the finish. Protection helps preserve it.
